First days of Summer

It’s been a while since I’ve been on here, busy with Cleopatra’s Bling, but have many ideas of new posts for you coming up. Summer is finally upon us here in Paris and I’ve been celebrating with fresh salads, light dinners. My orchids finally flowered after one year.

Weekend Bliss

Spring arrived this weekend- at long long last. I pulled out my lace tops and sunnies to celebrate and got some flowers to decorate the apartment.

While Spring is here, it’s still important to keep looking after our immune systems as our bodies are adjusting to the change. This is why I had lots of spicy chai tea and an immunity smoothie. For this smoothie you’ll need:

Frozen berries, organic
a cup of fresh green tea
super greens
matcha
a chunk of fresh ginger
turmeric
a spoon of raw honey
a few spoons of yoghurt

Turmeric needs either honey or some kind of “fat”, like yoghurt, for it’s properties to be activated. It’s a fantastic blood cleanser and is an anti-inflammatory. It’s good for everything really!

Is Your Love Big Enough?

Did you know that flowers have been proven to increase happiness levels? Scientists have proven this, so it isn’t a myth. The presence of flowers triggers happy emotions, heightens feelings of life satisfaction and affects social behavior in a positive manner far beyond what is normally believed. And if that’s not enough…Flowers have an immediate impact on happiness. All study participants expressed “true” or “excited” smiles upon receiving flowers, demonstrating extraordinary delight and gratitude. This reaction was universal, occurring in all age groups.

So when is the last time you had fresh flowers in your home?

Roses, Petals and Elephants on a Holiday

Flowers make me so happy. And I always put petals in cards and presents when I am giving somebody a gift. Seem ridiculous? Yes, but I live for that kind of small detail.

I am drying petals to make cards for Christmas.

The pink rose matched my coca cola bottle vase so perfectly- I just had to!

And I cannot forget Ganesh who needed a bit of cheering up on this cold, dark Winters day in Paris.

How did you spend your day?

Mango and chilli salad to celebrate the sun

There is nothing like a big salad on a sunny evening. We were in the country last weekend so we made the most of the local produce around us. Yes, mango is certainly not local, but all the other ingredients were- I promise! ;)

This is my mango and chilli salad. I have never met anybody who had eaten this kind of thing, but it always goes down a treat. This recipe feeds 4 hungry people.

You’ll need:
- 3 mangoes
- 1 lettuce
- 1 teaspoon of Cayenne pepper
- 1 chilli (depending on the spice-factor you like)
- balsamic vinegar and olive oil
- flowers to garnish (I’m such a girl!)

You cut up the mangoes and lettuce and mix them up.
For the dressing, you simply cut up the chillies in small pieces and mix them with about 4 tbsps of extra virgin olive oil, salt and pepper. Drizzle this over the salad just before serving and then pour over the balsamic vinegar.
Finally, add a flower and Bob’s your uncle! (Australian expression?)

Of course, these Mojitos went down a treat with it. Mmmm.

Let me know what you think! x

Flower Power

Last weekend Meg and I went to the countryside for a weekend with our loved ones. All of the flowers were in bloom so we had a flower-filled weekend.

For years I have wanted to find a sunflower field to take photos in, and also because sunflowers are in my top three favourite flowers.
